Finca Aurora

The Finca Aurora is an estate farm located in Retalhuleu on the south coast of Guatemala in Central America. There are 319 people living at the two farms, with a surge to 1200 people during the harvest season. On the farms' 488 hectares the finest 100% Arabica coffee is grown.

The farm features an ecological wet mill for coffee production and is currently involved in projects to increase reforestation, grow vegetables and fruits for workers, and protect local fish.

Since certification by Utz Kapeh in January 2002, Finca Aurora has worked to educate its farmers on the importance of the certification for the overall business and in particular a number of programs have been established to increase worker awareness in using protection while handling agrochemicals.

Planned projects to improve environmental and social conditions on the farm include a new eating room for temporary workers, expansion of electricity and drainage to workers' homes on the farms, and a new paved basketball court.

The farm enjoys participating in Utz Kapeh knowing that its coffee beans will be processed by roasters who care about source country workers and purchased by consumers with a conscious for sustainability.
